Your body works hard for you every day, whether you’re training in the gym, working long hours, chasing after your kids, or simply managing the demands of everyday life. Regular body maintenance through massage therapy and Muscle Activation Techniques (MAT) can help reduce pain, improve mobility, relieve muscle tension, and keep you moving at your best. Taking care of your body isn’t a luxury—it’s an investment in your health, performance, and quality of life. When your body feels better, you can do more of the things you love with confidence.
What is MAT?
Muscle Activation Techniques (MAT), is a manual therapy that takes a deep, comprehensive look into muscles and how they are- or are not- contracting appropriately to move your body.
MAT is all about restoring sensitivity to muscles to receive better input from the brain to contract. The best way to think about this neuromuscular relationship is to understand that it is like the brain is having a cell phone conversation with every single muscle of the body. Some muscles are highly sensitive and have great cell reception to receive a call from the brain. Other muscles, due to stress, trauma, and/or overuse, lose that sensitive cell phone reception and therefore, the conversation between them and the brain becomes jumbled or like a dropped phone call. MAT is a systematic way to evaluate every muscle to see which muscles have great cell phone reception, and which ones are struggling with the phone call.
By restoring sensitivity to your muscles and their ability to receive input from the brain, people experience recovery from chronic pain, acute injury and are equipped with new tools to help maintain their joint and muscle health.
Let’s talk Massage
The human body reacts to life experiences in ways we often don’t even realize. In addition to improper ergonomics, repetitive motions, or even lack of movement, physical injuries or performance demands, there are other ways the body keeps score. There aren’t enough hours in the day. The demands of work combined with wanting a balanced life with family and friends can lead to stress, anxiety, and even physical pain. Unprocessed emotional states like grief, loss, hurt, fears, or worry affect our bodies in profound ways. Sacrificing our personal well-being and sleep to meet life’s demands can compromise our body’s natural recovery and healing processes.
Prioritize self-care using massage therapy to enhance both physiological and psychological well-being, to rebalance, reset, and restore the neurological system, improve blood and lymph flow, facilitate a deeper connection with yourself, and leave you feeling invigorated from the inside out.
